A nurse is always good to have close by.
Someone who at any moment will step up to stop the bleeding and apply all their education to provide immediate care.
Nancy Mannion, RN is an emergency nurse running for Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District, which includes Lancaster and southern York Counties.
With over 40 years of experience as a registered nurse, her swift action, decision-making, and tenacity have saved lives during her patients’ most challenging moments.
Nancy cannot sit idly by while the Republican-controlled U.S. House and Senate compromise the integrity of our democracy.
She is acutely aware of the impending crisis that many residents in the 11th District will face due to the passage of the Trump budget bill in July 2025. Nancy understands that the first six months of inaction by the staunch Trump loyalist and incumbent, Lloyd Smucker, is already hurting many in this district.
REAL CARE, REAL CHANGE
Nancy Mannion realized early on that nursing was her calling. She grew up in a family filled with nurses—her great-aunts, aunts, and cousins were all part of the profession. Inspired by them, she decided to follow in their footsteps.
Raised in northwest Connecticut, her father was a factory manager, and her mother worked as a receptionist in a local doctor’s office. From a young age, Nancy saw her father answer the community’s call for volunteers; that was her first experience with servant leadership. His legacy now serves as her platform and commitment to the community.
Nancy began her nursing education at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT, in the late 1970s. Shortly after, she moved to the Boston area, where numerous hospitals provided ample opportunities for learning and career growth. She thrived in each emergency nursing position she held. In 1991, Nancy settled in Lancaster County, attracted by its natural beauty and quality of life.
Nancy advanced into nursing leadership roles at Pinnacle Health Hospitals in Harrisburg, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Penn Medicine Health System.
Eager to gain more knowledge, she pursued further education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, her Master of Science in Nursing Administration, and her Doctorate in Nursing Practice.
Nancy’s exceptional patient care and strategic leadership skills earned her accolades from peers, supervisors, and national nursing associations. She was elected President of the Emergency Nurses Association, representing this specialty practice around the world. She currently serves as the Chair of the Nurses on Boards Coalition, which aims to improve community health through nurses’ service on boards.
She is an in-demand leadership and clinical educator across the country and around the globe. Nancy launched her global leadership development business in Lancaster, traveling worldwide to share her extensive knowledge and expertise in healthcare operations.
Along with her numerous career accomplishments, Nancy exudes a genuine and tireless energy. To know her is to witness an incredibly driven woman.
So how does Nancy Mannion achieve so much? In simple terms, she is a woman of faith, which shapes her values and motivates her commitment to serving others.
This desire to serve humanity led her to guide humanitarian teams on missions to Bolivia, Kenya, and Nepal. Nancy has witnessed firsthand how basic education on clean water, good nutrition, and simple dental hygiene can save lives and enhance quality of life.
She draws inspiration from the late Fred Rogers of “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood,” who based his life in part on the principle of Tikkun Olam, a concept in Judaism meaning “repairer of the world.”
No matter what our particular job, especially in our world today, we all are called to be tikkun olam, repairers of creation. Thank you for whatever you do, wherever you are, to bring joy and life and hope and faith and pardon and love to your neighbor and to yourself.
Fred Rogers
That exemplifies who Nancy Mannion is and has always been—a tenacious, vibrant, and dutiful force dedicated to doing good. She lives by the motto to always be kind and to do no harm. Nancy is always ready to provide relief, resources, and renewed spirit to those in need.
She is a devoted partner to her husband, Fred. Together, they enjoy attending live music events throughout Lancaster and York counties, listening to a variety of genres from bluegrass to opera, as well as exploring the diverse food scene in their district.
As your Congresswoman, Nancy will bring the qualities that frames her career as a nurse to Washington DC.
She will be visible in the district, ready to listen and act decisively for its residents because politics transcends party lines when people are in need. She is deeply concerned about the welfare of her community.
